If you’re using NameCheap…
- Log in to your NameCheap account here.
- Click on “view” next to the number of domain names you have with NameCheap.
- Click on the domain name you wish to move to WP Engine.
- If, on the left, you see a menu item that says “Transfer DNS Back To Us”, click it. (If not, skip to the next step below.) Then check the box next to “Transfer DNS To NameCheap Default DNS”, and click “Save Changes.” This moves your DNS to NameCheap instead of your old hosting company. (Note: After clicking this, you must now follow through the rest of the steps below, or your site will be down!)
- On the left menu, click “All Host Records.”

- Next to “@”, in the field labeled “IP Address/URL”, copy and paste the IP address that’s in your WP Engine wp-admin screen. To find it, log in to [yourname].wpengine.com/wp-admin , and click on the “WP Engine” link at the top left of your wp-admin screen. At the top, under “General Information”, copy the IP address listed there (without the period after it.) Paste it into NameCheap.
- Make sure the “Record Type” says “A (Address)”.
- Now make changes to the “www” line. Under “IP Address/URL”, type in your domain name, without the www., and add a period at the end. So if your domain name is yoursite.com, the field should say yoursite.com. (with a period at the end!)
- Change the “Record Type” under “www” to CNAME.
- To summarize, your @ record should show the IP address listed in your wp-admin page (with no period at the end), and should say “A (Address)” under record type. Your www record should show your domain name, with no www in front of it, with a period at the end, and the record type should be “CNAME (Alias)”.

- If you are using a third-party email service, make sure to enter any records you need to ensure mail delivery, as well. If you are using Google Apps, click the “User (Mail Server’s Host Name Required)” option, then click “Automatically set MX records necessary for Google Apps Email.”
- Make sure to click “Save Changes” at the bottom when you are done!
- You’re all set! DNS records may take up to 48 hours to take effect, so be patient. If something’s not working, create a support ticket at your Zendesk account.
